Caletta Fuili (Cala Gonone) | The fastest route by public transport from Olbia to Dorgali/Cala Gonone to spend as much time as possible in this scenically stunning angle of Sardinia. With spectacular coastline, boat trips to indescribable beaches, numerous limestone caves, both short and long distance walks in remote and rugged country, endless opportunities for free climbing and canyoning, the beautiful Gola Gorroppu and the fascinating Nuragic village of Tiscali - the trouble will be to fit in all that you want to see and do in the short time that you have. Travel is all by bus.
Whilst we have called this a 3 day Itinerary, this only leaves 1 full day (Day 2) for activities in an area overflowing with things to see and do. You might decide, therefore, to stay a little longer if you can.
Total transport cost for the Itinerary would be around Euro 15 per person (Jun 2005).
Both travel Days 1 and 3 are possible on Sundays, however if Day 1 is attempted on a Sunday then it will probably result in a long transit time in Dorgali.
The following provides a day by day description of the itinerary idea, including also tables indicating the various stages of travel for each day. These tables do not contain the actual departure and arrival times of each leg of the journey which must be accessed directly from the web sites of the individual transport providers. Links are provided to the front pages of the relevant sites, and some notes are provided here which explain how we accessed the relevant timetable information from the sites which do not have English translations.
You can make a print of this itinerary description and fill in the relevant arrival and departure times for each leg in the spaces provided.

Cala Gonone | This Itinerary presents the fastest way to get by public transport from Olbia to the Dorgali and Cala Gonone area on the Island's central East coast so that you can have as much time as possible to spend in and around this wonderful area jam packed with potential wilderness activities and indescribable beaches. Select a departure from the Olbia Isola Bianca Port shortly after 8am (with connections from the Olbia ARST Bus Station)and you can be sitting (or lying) in the sun on the beach beside the port of Cala Gonone before midday gazing south towards the rugged coastline and wilderness planning your program of activities for the next few days.
Note that this Itinerary is also possible on Sundays however you will probably have a wait of several hours or so in Dorgali for the bus to Cala Gonone which departs in the mid afternoon. Remember also that on Sundays you can expect virtually everything in Dorgali to be shut up tight so there wont be much to do. You could decide to base yourself instead in Dorgali and hence check straight into your accommodation, or you could decide to do it on your own heading off towards Cala Gonone and the coast on foot (assuming you are adequately prepared of course!).

Gola de Gorropu (Near Dorgali) | We have listed this as being Day 3, but in fact it would be very hard to tear yourself away from the Dorgali area after having had only 1 full day (Day 2) to enjoy its many possibilities. So if you can afford the time then you might decide to stay at least another day or two.
The return travel itinerary is then simply the reverse of that used on Day 1. Selecting a late afternoon departure from Cala Gonone you may find that there is a fast bus change required in Dorgali but the connection is usually guaranteed. Tickets for the full journey can be bought in Cala Gonone, otherwise the bus in Dorgali will usually wait whilst you buy your ticket for the onward journey. In Olbia the bus will probably go straight to the port (Isola Bianca) and stop out the front of the Stazione Marittima from where it is possible to change buses to get a ride to the Olbia ARST Bus Station (the driver will usually indicate which bus to take).
