Description
Macomer is an easy transport interchange with the Bus station, and both Train stations (ie FdS and FS) being located within the same Piazza (Piazza due Stazioni). The small bus station consists of a grey concrete building on the Eastern side of the piazza on the corner also with Corso Umberto 1 which is the main street heading towards the centre of town. Busses to Bosa (C3, C4) depart form here. The FdS train station (from where the trains for Nuoro depart - A1, O1, M1, C2) is a yellow and orange/pink building without any name to indicate its function located at the North end of the Piazza across Corso Umberto 1.
At the Southern end of the Piazza is the FS train station from where trains for Cagliari and Sassari depart (with connections also to Olbia). It is here that the train from Oristano will arrive (C3, C4).
There is a small Bar in the Bus Station which, apart from selling tickets for the buses, may also sell tickets for the various trains whenever the ticket offices in either of the two train stations are closed. There is also a small Bar located in the FS train station and several bars in the first few 100m east along Corso Umberto towards the centre of town.
If you have a little time to fill then there is a small medieval quarter located at the eastern end of the town (10 mins walk from Piazza due Stazioni) which allows also views across the Campidano plain below. There is a map of the town on the wall of the FdS station otherwise maps of the town can be found on the net.
There should be no reason to find yourself blocked in Macomer but if you do, there are a couple of hotels in the town.
